General Information
What:Bar Harbor Brass Week is an intensive educational and performance experience for select college and high school brass musicians, sponsored by the Mark Woolman Horner Music Education Fund. A small group of high school, college, and pre-professional participants will be selected to form brass choirs and chamber ensembles to prepare for performances in Bar Harbor. Daily activities will include rehearsals, coachings, masterclasses, and private lessons--all led by a prestigious faculty of many of the finest brass musicians and educators in the country.
When:The eighth annual Bar Harbor Brass Week will take place Sunday evening June 22nd (registration from 5-7pm; placement auditions from 7-9pm) through Saturday evening, June 28th, 2008. Participants should plan to arrive the afternoon of the 22nd and depart on Sunday morning, June 29. Application:All applicants must submit an application form and audition/placement recording. The application deadline is FEBRUARY 15, 2008 for College students and MARCH 1, 2008 for High School students. Cost, Housing and Travel:College Students: Those selected to be College Participants will receive free tuition, room, and board. Students will be housed in dormitories at the College of the Atlantic and will receive meals Monday through Friday at the dining hall. Transportation to Bar Harbor is the responsibility of the participant. Travel to Bar Harbor will be the responsibility of the participant. Participants can drive or fly into Hancock County Airport (12 miles from Bar Harbor) or Bangor International Airport (50 miles.) The program may be able to assist with transportation from either airport. High School Students: The fee for High School Participants is $340. The fee covers tuition and lunch at the College of the Atlantic Monday through Friday. High School Participants coming from out of town who need housing will be matched with a host family of a local high school participant. Since one of our founding missions of the camp is to inspire the students in the Bar Harbor area and Maine, we give preference to students from Maine. Out-of-state students apply to the camp every year and most have been invited; but due to the limited amount of host housing, and to maintain a reasonable balance of instrumentation, we turn away out of state applicants first. If you plan to travel and stay with parents, or have housing available with local relatives, please indicate this in your application. Upon acceptance into the program, High School Participants must pay a deposit to secure their spot in the program, with the balance due at the beginning of Brass Week. The exact due date and amount will be indicated in the acceptance letter. If you wish to audit the week (observe but not participate), please contact us.
